Coach's Corner
Sporting Director and Head Coach Rod Underwood gave his verdict on the season so far and previewed the match against New England Revolution II this week.
"We're just trying to move forward. In the past couple of years we've started really fast. This year we've started a little slower than I would like, but that's partly due to the timeline, the international players coming late. Usually I know the team before we get to preseason. We didn't have that this year, but the pieces are coming together. We want to keep putting the pieces together and building, and hopefully we peak at the right time.
"We went out to find good players that could make good decisions consistently and that could impact the game. Those players are doing that, and players are stepping up at the right moments. We're also building our identity around that. It's been a good start. We're not satisfied. We have a lot more to do, but overall it's been a good start.
"They'll [New England Revolution II] be aggressive and will come out and press and attack and make things difficult. We expect that every week. We'll come out, play our way and our style and do what we need to do, and hopefully that leads us to the place we want to be."
Kickin' Cancer Match and CleanCult's "Trash Plastic for Good" initiative
Chattanooga Football Club will kick off National Cancer Survivor month by celebrating and recognizing cancer survivors and their caregivers at the match on Saturday.
CFC will be welcoming families from the Austin Hatcher Foundation For Pediatric Cancer and the American Cancer Society for Kickin' Cancer Night.
The club will be recognizing families and individuals who have been affected by cancer in any way. Guests will be walked onto the field and honored by CFC and its fans ahead of the player walkout.
Fans are also encouraged to bring their empty laundry containers for a chance to win free laundry for a year, thanks to CleanCult. CleanCult and CFC will be collecting the empty containers, and all #1 and #2 plastics, in front of the St. Elmo Gates South entrance. Fans that do so will then be eligible to enter to win free laundry for a year.
