Chattanooga FC Women’s player and New Zealand native Juliette Lucas has been called up to the Fern’s U-20 national team camp for July. The 19-year old forward will represent her country for the first time in their upcoming July camp

“I was pretty happy. I think I called my mom first and told her ‘I’m pretty excited’. And no, I did not cry.”

Lucas receives the call up after a stellar freshman season at the University of Charleston West Virginia, earning the Freshman of the Year award. Lucas put up 11 goals with seven assists in 22 games for the Golden Eagles.

Lucas’s individual season performance was capped off by a championship-winning season, finishing first place in the Mountain East Conference’s South Division regular season, with an 18-1-3 record. UCWV went on to win the conference tournament, with Lucas scoring a goal in the final.

As for CFCW, Lucas has two goals in her first season with the Sky Blues, scoring in a 4-1 win versus FC Birmingham and a 7-2 win versus FC Nashville Wolves.

“I know quite a few of the girls from back home, so I think that helps. I think it should be fun.”

The New Zealand U-20 youth national team will meet in July, and the U-20 World Cup roster will be decided after the conclusion of this camp.

During the July camp, the Ferns will play the Australian U-20 national team on July 11th at 10:30 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcasted on FIFA+. A second game will be played against the same opponent on July 14th behind closed doors.

The U-20 World Cup will be held in Colombia, Aug. 31 - Sept. 22, 2024. New Zealand are in a group with Japan, Ghana and Austria.
