HIGH POINT, N.C. (December 13, 2023) - Carolina Core FC, an independent club that will join MLS NEXT Pro in 2024, has signed 19 year old, Yekeson Subah. The Raleigh native was spotted during Carolina Core FC’s first open tryout on October 21, 2023.
“Subah made a great showing at the combine that really impressed the coaching staff. He possessed good strength and technical ability on the ball as well as a high work ethic. We feel Subah has the tools and characteristics we are looking for, especially his ability to take on players. We welcome Yekeson to the Core and look forward to his contribution to the club,” states Roy Lassiter, Head Coach.
Subah began his youth soccer career with North Carolina FC’s (NCFC) Development Academy. The young forward developed exponentially, and rose through the ranks, eventually earning a call-up to NCFC U-23s at the age of 16. Subah’s performance with the U-23s earned him minutes with NCFC’s first team. He made his professional debut on May 22, 2021, against the Richmond Kickers.
In 2021, Subah joined Real Salt Lake’s Academy with their U-17 squad. Shortly after joining the RSL Academy, Subah signed with Real Salt Lake’s MLS NEXT Pro team, Real Monarchs. With the Monarchs, the forward appeared in 16 matches, and recorded 553 minutes. Following his 2022 breakout season with Real Monarchs, Yekeson Subah set his sights on Los Angeles FC.
With LAFC 2, Subah made 21 appearances and recorded 11 starts this 2023 season. He netted three goals in 988 minutes for the club. His success with LAFC 2, earned Subah a call-up to LAFC’s MLS first team. Subah made his MLS debut on June 13 with a 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City. Throughout 2023, he recorded 3 appearances (2 starts) for the MLS squad, including 2 U.S. Open Cup appearances.
"When we saw Yekeson at our open tryouts, the staff had one of those moments where we all said, 'Who is that!?' He really impressed us with his willingness to take on defenders 1v1, his success at doing so, and his finishing in and around the box. We also loved his competitive nature. He fought for everything and really had a hunger and desire that we hope he'll bring with him from day one at the club," explains Eddie Pope, Chief Sporting Officer.
Subah will join Carolina Core FC in their inaugural season with MLS NEXT Pro this coming spring. After an incredible season with LAFC2, Subah’s experience will be instrumental to the success of the club. Carolina Core FC will play their home matches at Truist Point in downtown High Point, North Carolina.
