HIGH POINT, N.C. (January 8, 2024) - Carolina Core FC, an independent club that will join MLS NEXT Pro in 2024, has signed 21 year old, Nicholas Pechenyi. The striker was spotted during the first Carolina Core FC open tryout.
“Nicholas has a good presence as a striker. He showed very well in tryouts, having good mobility and the ability to find the goal. We are looking forward to what Nicholas will bring to the club as a player that simply wants to learn and develop. We await the opportunity to work with him and help advance his game,” says Roy Lassiter, Head Coach.
The Miami native began his playing career with New York Soccer Club’s U19 MLS NEXT squad. Nicholas was quickly picked up by SV Germania Salchendorf based in Netphen, Germany, where the striker developed his talents overseas.
Nicholas’ performance in Germany caught the attention of National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) side, Michigan Stars FC, where he gained professional playing experience before signing with Twin City Toucans FC.
"We were very impressed with Nicholas after seeing him at our first tryout. He has good speed and mobility for someone who stands at 6'5". We thought he did a great job at knowing when to break lines, when to come underneath, and when to press or drop off. Tryouts are tough, so it was nice to see him do so many things well. With a lot of hard work and dedication, we think that we can help him develop into the type of striker he wants to be," explains Eddie Pope, Chief Sporting Officer.
Nicholas will join Carolina Core FC in their inaugural season with MLS NEXT Pro this coming spring. Carolina Core FC will play their home matches at Truist Point in downtown High Point, North Carolina.
