2025 MLS NEXT Pro Invitational to Feature North Texas SC Hosting Club Deportivo Tapatío at Toyota Stadium

MLS NEXT Pro today announced that its reigning Champion will face the Champion of Liga Expansión MX in the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Invitational on Saturday, July 26. North Texas SC will host Club Deportivo Tapatío at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas (8:30 p.m. ET).
MLS NEXT Pro hosted competition from Mexico for the first time last year, as 2023 MLS NEXT Pro Champions Austin FC II hosted and defeated Liga Expansión MX Champions Cancún F.C. in the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro Invitational in Austin. Previous iterations of the MLS NEXT Pro Invitational (2022 and 2023) welcomed clubs from Premier League 2 and Bundesliga.
“Competing against high-level international opponents is great for MLS NEXT Pro clubs, and we’re happy for our reigning champion, North Texas SC, to have the chance to face the best of Liga Expansión MX,” said Ali Curtis, SVP of Sporting Development – MLS. “We know the two clubs will challenge each other on the field, which is not only good for player development, but the game will also be entertaining for fans to watch.”

North Texas SC won the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro Cup in dramatic fashion on November 9, 2024, at Toyota Stadium, completing a 3-2 comeback against Philadelphia Union II. North Texas SC became the first club in MLS NEXT Pro history to finish the season undefeated at home in both the regular season and playoffs when the club erased a two-goal halftime deficit, scoring three unanswered goals in the second half to capture the 2024 title. The MLS NEXT Pro Invitational match will be North Texas SC’s first full 90-minute international competitive match.

Club Deportivo Tapatío won the 2024 Liga BBVA Expansión MX Apertura title with a 5-3 aggregate win over Celaya on November 23, 2024. The team also secured the 2024-25 Campeón de Campeones on June 7, 2025, defeating Leones Negros UdeG, 3-1 on aggregate, in the annual match between the Apertura and Clausura champions.
