Former DC United homegrown Jacob Greene is on his way to MLS NEXT Pro.
The 20-year-old joined Columbus Crew 2 on Wednesday, signing a one-year deal for 2024. Greene made 11 MLS appearances last season for DC United, starting in five of those matches.
“Jacob is a player with great experience, professionalism, and versatility and we are so excited to have him in Columbus,” said Columbus Crew 2 General Manager Corey Wray. “His experience in MLS and USL Championship will be a valuable asset to Crew 2 this season. We are eager to work with Jacob and help develop his skillset and style of play within the Black & Gold player pathway.”
Greene also made 72 combined appearances for DC United’s USL affiliate, Loudoun United. He scored three goals and added one assist from 2019-22 and is a U.S. youth national team player.

FC Cincinnati 2 signs defender 2024 draft pick Brian Schaefer
FC Cincinnati 2 signed the club’s 2024 first round pick on Thursday.
Brian Schaefer signed a one-year contract with the Eastern Conference club, FCC2 announced.
Schaefer was selected by FC Cincinnati with the No. 27 overall pick in the 2024 MLS Draft.
He played collegiately at the University of South Florida, totaling 53 appearances from 2022-23. Schaefer scored five goals and added three assists during his collegiate career, earning American Athletic Conference (AAC) Second-Team All-Conference honors in 22’.
Prior to his college career, Schaefer was a standout midfielder at Fletcher High School, scoring 19 goals and providing 26 assists during his senior season.
Revs II add goalkeeper John David Gunn
New England Revolution II bolstered their goalkeeping options for 2024.
John David Gunn signed an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract ahead of the 2024 season. The 24-year-old previously played at Biola University and the University of Memphis during his collegiate career.
The 2022 PacWest Goalkeeper of the Year joins Revs after collecting a 24-17-9 record at Biola. He logged 4,600 minutes from 2019-22 while helping guide Biola to its first PacWest Conference title in program history.
Gunn moved to the University of Memphis in 2023 as a graduate student and proceeded to record seven wins across nine starts.
Revs II open their 2024 schedule against Philadelphia Union II on March 24.
Carolina Core FC adds forwards Tyler Freeman, Johnny Bazaes, Joshua Rodriguez to roster
Carolina Core FC added ample forward help to their roster ahead of the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro campaign.
Josuha Rodriguez, Tyler Freeman and Johnny Bazaes all joined the Eastern Conference club on respective deals.
Freeman, 21, makes the move from Nashville SC, where he spent majority of the 2023 campaign on loan. He originally was with Birmingham Legion FC in the USL Championship before also spending time with Huntsville City FC. Bazaes, 21, joins from NISA side Albion San Diego, where he spent the last two seasons.
The 19-year-old Rodriguez spent 2023 with Butte United SC.
Crew 2 signs midfielder Adrian Gonzalez for 2024
Additional MLS NEXT Pro experience is coming to Columbus Crew 2.
Adrian Gonzalez has joined the reigning MLS NEXT Pro Cup finalists on a one-year deal for 2024. The 20-year-old spent the last three seasons with LA Galaxy II, in both the USL Championship and MLS NEXT Pro.
González played in 26 matches for Los Dos in 2023, registering 2,152 minutes, two goals and a club-high six assists.
Internationally, Gonzalez has featured for several of Mexico’s youth national teams.
