Debuting new kits, Colorado Rapids 2 went into Houston to defeat Dynamos Dos. It marked the first time the hosts had been defeated at SaberCats stadium in MLS NEXT Pro. The only other time they had lost at home was at Shell Energy Stadium in June last year.
The Rapids 2 are off to a hot start to begin the season and were coming off another victory versus a division rival, Sporting KC II. The win places Erik Bushey's squad in second place in the very competitive Frontier division, which currently has 3 of the seven remaining perfect teams in MLS NEXT Pro.
Costa Rican International Daniel Chacon made his highly anticipated debut for Rapids 2 and played the entire game.
The Rapids 2 overcame a deficit after Dynamo Dos took the lead in the 68th minute of the match, but in the 87th minute, Yosuke Hanya broke through for the visitors and even things up to set up a wild finish to the game.
The visitors completed the comeback with a brilliant finish from Caique in the second minute of stoppage time. Yosuke Hanya set up the play with a perfectly placed pass to Caique, who showed no mercy to the goalkeeper and scored to help seal the deal for the visiting squad.
Colorado Rapids 2 held on to win the match in regulation and picked up three valuable points on the road. With two wins this season, Rapids 2 has improved their start to the season significantly as last year; the team did not pick up their second regulation time win until 12 weeks in. Rapids 2 return home next week and will host Timbers2 on Sunday, April 9 at 10 pm Eastern at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, where they will look to stay undefeated.
