MLS NEXT Pro Players Get Called to National Team Duty

The March international window has closed, but several MLS NEXT Pro players gained valuable international experience with their national teams this month. 

Chicago Fire II forward Omari Glasgow featured in Guyana’s two Concacaf Nations League matches, helping his squad earn four points out of a possible six. The 19-year-old remains a crucial prospect for the national team going forward and will head back to MLS NEXT Pro action after missing Matchday 1.

Austin FC II midfielder Bobosi Byrauhanga logged 89 minutes in Uganda’s 1-0 victory over Tanzania in African Cup of Nations Qualifying on Tuesday. After not featuring in Friday’s 1-0 loss, Byrauhanga helped Uganda move to 1-2-1 in qualifying. 

North Texas SC midfielder Carl Sainte featured in Haiti’s two Concacaf Nations League matches this window, as Les Grenadiers topped Group B of League B with 16 points. Sainte came off the bench in a 4-1 win over Montserrat on Saturday before starting and playing 89 minutes in Tuesday’s 3-1 victory over Bermuda. 

Haiti’s first-place finish punched them a ticket into the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup group stage this summer. 

Here is a rundown of the MLS NEXT Pro Players to receive March international call-ups:

Omari Glasgow - Guyana

Glasgow started and played in Guyana’s Nations League matches; a 2-0 win over Bermuda on Saturday and a 0-0 draw with Montserrat on Tuesday.

Carl Sainte - Haiti 

Sainte logged 100 combined minutes in Haiti’s two Concacaf Nations League matches; 11 minutes in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Montserrat and 89 minutes in Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Bermuda.

Bobosi Byaruhanga - Uganda

Started and played 89 minutes in Uganda’s 1-0 win over Tanzania on Tuesday.

Nikola Petković - Serbian U-21 

Played in two international friendlies vs. Italy U-21 and the United States U-21 teams.

Molik Khan - Trinidad & Tobago - MNUFC2

Khan dressed but did not play in Trinidad & Tobago’s 3-1 win over the Bahamas on Friday or Monday’s 1-1 draw with Nicaragua. 

Daniel Chacon - Costa Rica - Rapids 2

Chacon dressed but did not play in Costa Rica’s 2-1 win over Martinique on Saturday or Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to Panama. 

Edison Azcona - Dominican Republic - Inter Miami II

Azcona did not dress in the Dominican Republic’s Nations League matches against French Guiana or Belize.

Israel Boatwright - Dominican Republic - Inter Miami II

Boatwright did not dress in the Dominican Republic’s Nations League matches against French Guiana or Belize.

Kyle Hiebert debuted with Canadian Men's National Team when he was subbed in for Scott Kennedy in the 62nd minute of the Nations League match vs. Honduras. The team north of the border went on to win 4-1 and will meet Panama in the semifinals of the CONCACAF tournament.
