Patrick Agyemang continues to enjoy a breakout 2023 season, scoring twice Sunday in a 3-1 win over Atlanta United 2. Agyemang's brace came in the space of two minutes.
Agyemang, who raised his goal total this season to seven, is Matchday 16's Player of the Matchday. He helped Crown Legacy FC raise its lead in the Eastern Conference to seven points.
The 22-year-old forward has made strides this season, emerging as a key player for Crown Legacy. He's also broken into the Charlotte FC first team, making seven appearances and scoring one goal.
Agyemang opened scoring in the 42nd minute with a near-post header to finish off a high-arcing cross from Jacob Williams.
Two minutes later, Agyemang scored with his left foot after making a quick move past a defender at the top of the 18-yard box.
Agyemang arrived to Charlotte FC by being selected 12th overall in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft, and signed a first-team deal on February 24, 2023. He established a reputation as a prolific scorer as a college player at Rhode Island, where he scored 19 goals in 37 appearances.
Charlotte FC first called him into the first team March 3, 2023, and he received his first MLS minutes in a May 27 match against the Los Angeles Galaxy. Agyemang's most memorable feat of the 2023 season came June 10, when he scored a late equalizer in a 3-3 away draw with the Seattle Sounders. Agyemang also scored the next day in an MLS NEXT Pro match with Crown Legacy FC.
