Atlanta United 2's Nick Firmino capped one of the most memorable weeks of his career with another outstanding MLS NEXT Pro performance on Sunday.
Firmino, who is contracted in MLS NEXT Pro with ATL UTD 2, made his first-team debut Wednesday in Atlanta United's 1-1 draw with New York City FC. Firmino entered the match in the 87th minute and scored a last-gasp equalizer to save a point.
On short turnaround, Firmino scored twice Sunday as ATL UTD 2 claimed three points in a 4-2 comeback win over NYCFC II.
Firmino is Matchday 14's Player of the Matchday. He is the first repeat Player of the Matchday of the 2023 season, having earned the honor in Matchday 11.
ATL UTD 2 stormed back from a 2-0 deficit Sunday with goals from Jackson Conway and Aiden McFadden.
Firmino scored from the top of the box into the lower right corner to complete the comeback in the 74th minute.
Firmino added a second goal, finding space on the right side of the field in the 84th minute. His 10th goal of the season put him in the lead in MLS NEXT Pro for goals.
The milestone week finished off an incredible month for Firmino in which he scored five goals, including the crucial MLS goal in his first-team debut. Firmino also saw the field briefly on Saturday for the first team during a 4-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls, marking his second MLS appearance.
The 22-year-old Brazilian-American spent his early years in the New England Revolution academy, and has also spent time with Union Omaha. He joined the Atlanta United organization in March 2022.
