Chicago Fire FC II won its second match in a row, scoring five goals for the first time this season in a 5-2 away win over Philadelphia Union II.
Victor Bezerra, a 23-year-old forward for Fire II, starred in the win with two goals and two assists. Bezerra provided his first goal contributions of the season, and he is named Player of the Matchday for Matchday 13.
Bezerra helped his team double the lead in the 47th minute, assisting Sergio Oregel's goal with a low driven cross that connected perfectly with Oregel's run in the middle of the box.
Fire II put the game out of reach in the 60th minute, with Bezerra scoring a goal of his own. As the goalkeeper closed down his angle, Bezerra slotted a shot into the lower right corner of the goal.
Bezerra stepped to the penalty spot in the 70th minute, sending his spot kick into the right side of the net.
Oregel and Bezerra combined once more for Fire II's fifth goal of the game. Bezerra flicked the ball past a defender as Oregel ran into the 18-yard box, then calmly finished in the 71st minute.
Bezerra, a native of Chicago, spent time in the Chicago Fire Academy before playing college soccer at Indiana University. Bezerra was among the top attacking talents in college soccer his sophomore year, and he finished runner-up for the MAC Hermann Trophy. He was signed by the Fire as a Homegrown player in the December 2021.
Bezerra has made six appearances and four starts in MLS NEXT Pro this season. His excellent performance Sunday marked his first four goal contributions of the season. He played a key role with Fire II in 2022, scoring eight goals and adding two assists in 13 starts.
