MLS NEXT Pro Matchday 4: Friday Night Rewind

2023-04-14-TOR2vsNYC2-Kschischang-0044

After a thrilling mid-week game, Matchday 4 continued on Friday night with a trio of matches filled with exciting MLS NEXT Pro action.

Let's delve deeper into the outcomes of Friday's MLS NEXT Pro's matches:

Crown Legacy FC (3) - Inter Miami II (0)

A rainy night in Matthews, North Carolina couldn't dampen hometown Crown Legacy FC's positive run of form.

Crown Legacy can thank captain David Poreba for a memorable performance that kept his side in the win column for a third-consecutive Matchday.

The 20-year-old Chicago native notched a brace on Friday, and his second was a direct free kick from distance which was immediately placed in 2023 the Goal of the Year file.

While his wonder strike will garner most of the attention from the match, his first was arguably more athletic when he fought through traffic to beat the Miami II goalkeeper with a header that nestled into the near post.

Poreba's performance capitalized on an Inter Miami II own goal in the 64th minute, which helped make for a comfortable win that helped CLFC remain as one of the few unbeaten teams left in MLS NEXT Pro.

Toronto FC II (0) - New York City FC II (2)

There was another brace that took place on Friday.

NYCFC II striker Matthew Myers notched two, which were his first two goals of the season, over TFC II. Myers' second was what effectively clinched the game for the visitors and earned NYCFC II three points on the road.

The win marked the second in a row for NYCFC II, which has outscored opponents 4-0 over the last two MLS NEXT Pro Matchdays.

TFC II will now need to regroup before they face off against Philadelphia Union II on April 23rd.

Real Monarchs (0) - Sporting KC II (4)

Friday night concluded with a dominant performance from Sporting KC II, putting four goals past Real Monarchs at Zions Bank Stadium.

The goal-scoring action kicked off early with SKC Academy product Sebastian Cruz sending a rocket past Real Monarch's keeper Gavin Beavers in the sixth minute of the match.

SKC II would continue to knock at the Real Monarch's door but could not increase their lead before halftime. At the midway point, SKC II had nearly 70% possession and 9 shots on target compared to none from the host side.

SKC II maintained their dominance in the second half going up 2-0 in the 54th minute after Lucas Rosas launched an incredible long-distance strike into the back of Real Monarch's goal. The 25-year-old Brazilian's goal will certainly be among the contenders for Goal of the Matchday.

The visitors did not let off their foot off the gas with Ethan Bryant and Pau Vidal teaming up to score SKC II's third and fourth goal of the night respectively to wrap up the three points.

After failing to capture victories during the first two Matchdays, SKC II has now earned back to back wins and will put their winning streak on the line next week against FC Cincinnati 2.

Friday's result marked the third defeat of the season for Real Monarchs. They'll look to rebound next week against North Texas SC.
