Sporting Kansas City II defender Anthony Samways has earned the MLS NEXT Pro Goal of Matchweek 26 award for his stoppage-time winner against Real Monarchs.

The 22-year-old scored a half volley in the 94th minute of Sporting KC II’s match against Real Monarchs to seal a dramatic 2-1 victory.

Other nominees for Goal of Matchweek 26 included Facundo Canete (Carolina Core FC), Cyprian Kachwele (Whitecaps FC 2), and Nico Rincon (Columbus Crew 2).

A product of Ohio State, Samways has played close to 1500 minutes in his first season with Sporting KC II.

The 22-year-old recorded his first goal contributions of the season in the span of a week, providing an assist on August 31 against Colorado Rapids 2 before scoring his first professional goal six days later against Real Monarchs.

SKC II will now aim for back-to-back victories when they visit the defending champions North Texas SC on Saturday, September 13.
