Chicago Fire II forward Omari Glasgow has secured the MLS NEXT Pro Goal of Matchweek 1 award thanks to his exceptional strike against FC Cincinnati 2 over the weekend.
The 20-year-old’s goal earned close to 60% of the X (formerly Twitter) vote to take home the award. Other nominees included Orlando City B’s Colin Guske, Austin FC II’s Bryan Arellano and Carolina Core’s David Polanco.
Glasgow’s goal took place in the 71st minute of the match when Chicago Fire Academy product Dylan Borso intercepted a ball in the midfield and quickly linked up with Glasgow. The young forward expertly controlled Borso's pass and then unleashed a powerful strike past FCC2 goalkeeper Hunter Morse to give Fire II the lead.
Chicago Fire II would go on to secure a 5-3 shootout victory over FC Cincinnati 2, earning two valuable points in the process.
Glasgow will now set his sights on adding to his MLS NEXT Pro goal tally in Fire II's Matchweek 2 encounter against Philadelphia Union II on March 28th.
