Portland Timbers2 midfielder Michael Vang has been honored with the MLS NEXT Pro Goal of Matchday 8 thanks to his remarkable strike against Whitecaps FC 2 last Sunday.
Vang's goal secured an impressive 42.2% of the Twitter votes with Jesus Batiz from TFC II coming in second with 33.4%. Danny Flores of SKC II and Marlon Vargas from Rapids 2 received 14% and 10.3% of the votes respectively.
Timbers2 earned their second victory of the 2023 campaign when they defeated Whitecaps FC 2 by 3-1 on Matchday 8. Despite initially trailing 1-0, Timbers2 mounted a comeback, scoring three unanswered goals.
Vang's sublime strike took place in the 44th minute when the 23-year-old received a perfect pass near the edge of the box which he skillfully unleashed into the upper right corner of the goal. Timbers2 would score again minutes later thanks to a Vang corner kick assist, securing the victory for the home side.
After defeating their Cascadia rivals, Timbers2 will now travel to face off against Galaxy II on Sunday, May 21.
