St. Louis CITY2 forward John Klein has earned the MLS NEXT Pro Goal of Matchday 19 honor after securing close to 60% of the Twitter poll vote.
SKC II's Alenis Vargas took second place with over 30% of the votes, with Real Monarchs’ Cayne Madhlangove and NY Red Bulls II’s Wikelman Carmona earning third and fourth place respectively.
Klein's goal occurred near the end of the first half after CITY2 earned a throw-in in LAFC2's half. Isak Jensen received the inbound pass and spotted Klein making a run and launched a looping pass into LAFC2's box.
The pass landed in the box between an LAFC2 defender and the oncoming goalkeeper, giving Klein the opportunity to head the ball over the goalie with the top of his head and giving CITY2 their third goal of the match. CITY2 went on to defeat LAFC2 by 4-2.
The young forward has been a fixture for CITY2 this season playing in 20 games and starting in 17 of them. Klein has played close to 1500 minutes in 2023, scoring seven goals and providing one assist.
After victory over LAFC2, St. Louis CITY2 will now host Real Monarchs at CITYPARK during Matchday 20 action and will look to build on last week’s victory.
