High Point, NC | August 9, 2023 - Carolina Core FC (CCFC), the newest independent club in MLS NEXT Pro, is thrilled to announce the appointment of Amado Guevara as the Assistant Coach for the upcoming 2024 season. Guevara brings a wealth of experience and an impressive track record in the soccer world, making him an ideal addition to the coaching staff alongside Eddie Pope - Chief Sporting Officer, Roy Lassiter - Head Coach, and Andy Williams - Head Scout. Amado Guevara is a distinguished figure in the world of soccer, known for his illustrious career as a player and his continued success as a coach.
As a former international soccer star, Guevara represented the Honduran National Team as captain and all-time cap leader, earning him the title of "The Golden Boy" in his home country. With an impressive 139 appearances for Honduras, Guevara’s dedication and contribution to his national team is unquestionable. His experience also extends to the grand stage of the World Cup, where he showcased his skills as a seasoned veteran. As a player in MLS, Guevara garnered numerous accolades and achievements, including being named the MVP of Copa America in 2001, CONCACAF Player of the Year in 2003, and receiving the MLS MVP, MLS Best XI, MLS All-star, MLS Golden Boot, and MLS Most Valuable Player awards in 2004 – highlighting his exceptional talent and impact on the game.
Having played across various countries, including Honduras, Costa Rica, Mexico, Spain, and the US, Guevara’s versatility and adaptability are second to none. His extensive experience playing at the highest levels has endowed him with an exceptional understanding of the nuances of the game.
Following his retirement as a player, Guevara seamlessly transitioned into a coaching role, showcasing his passion for the sport and dedication to developing future talent. His coaching journey began at various youth academies, where he proved to be an inspirational mentor, nurturing youth talents and shaping them into top-tier players.
Guevara's coaching expertise is further evidenced by his time as an Assistant Coach for the Honduras National Team, contributing to their success on the international stage. Additionally, he served as the Head Coach of Puerto Rico's U20 team, where he demonstrated his leadership skills and tactical acumen, guiding the team to significant improvements and commendable performances.
Notably, Guevara later ascended to the position of Head Coach for Puerto Rico's National Team, where his strategic approach and ability to motivate players resulted in notable advancements for the team under his guidance. His tenure as head coach has been marked by remarkable progress and a commitment to instilling a winning mentality among the players.
