Huntsville, Ala. (May 22, 2023) – Today, Huntsville City Football Club was announced as MLS NEXT Pro Team of Matchday 9. The honor comes after the club won its inaugural match at the Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium on May 19 against Eastern Conference leaders Crown Legacy.
After Crown Legacy scored within the first five minutes, Huntsville found the equalizer in the last five minutes of the first half. A series of passes led Randall Leal, making his Huntsville City FC debut from Nashville SC, to Jony Bolaños, who finished off the chance. Huntsville went up for good in the second half on a counter attack. A long ball from Ollie Wright found Azaad Liadi, who put the ball past the keeper to give the home side the win.
Huntsville City FC will continue its first ever homestand on Friday, May 26 when it takes on New York Red Bulls 2 at the Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium at 7 p.m. CT. Ticket for the match can be purchased here.
