A Dramatic Match in Huntsville

Carolina Core FC drew Huntsville City FC 1-1 in Matchweek 16, and took home the extra point after winning the penalty kick shootout, 6-5.

The first goal of the match wasn’t scored until the 78th minute, when Huntsville attacker Adem Sipić got the ball after a long pass from midfielder Jony Bolaños. Sipić dribbled past the CCFC defense and took the ball down the line before playing a pass to substitute Jordan Knight, who thumped the ball into the net to make it 1-0 for the home side.

The Foxes would respond just seven minutes later with a goal from attacker Josuha Rodriguez. Midfielder Santiago Cambindo intercepted a ball in the midfield, and played it through to Facundo Canete. The Argentinian midfielder took a few touches before firing a shot, which would be deflected into the path of Rodriguez, who slotted the ball into the net underneath HCFC goalkeeper Ben Martino.

The game would end 1-1, and would go to penalties to see who would get the extra point.

Carolina Core goalkeeper Alex Sutton would prove to be the hero of the penalty shootout, saving three penalty kicks in the shootout. CCFC defender Jathan Juarez would score the final penalty to give The Foxes the win and extra point in Alabama.

Previous Matchup

Carolina Core FC and Orlando City B (OCB) met back in Matchweek 13 of this MLSNP season, and the match was an exciting one.

CCFC would take the lead early with goals from Facundo Canete in the seventh minute and Papa Ndoye in the 17th minute. The game would hold at 2-0 until the 72nd minute, when OCB defender Alexander Freeman scored a penalty kick to make it 2-1. Orlando would tie the game with a goal from midfielder Jorge Almaguer in the 86th minute.

The match would end 2-2, and would finish with a penalty kick shootout to determine who would get the extra point.

Orlando would go on to win the shootout 6-5, with OCB goalkeeper saving CCFC midfielder Santiago Cambindo’s effort to earn them the extra point in the shootout.

Orlando City B

Orlando currently sits in 10th position in the Eastern Conference of MLS NEXT Pro with 21 points. The team has amassed four wins, four losses, and six draws, throughout this season.

OCB is coming into this match off of a 2-2 draw against Atlanta United. The game started nicely for Orlando, as they scored the first goal of the match in the 11th minute. Alexander Freeman got in behind the Atlanta United defense, and played a ball back across the penalty box before forward Wilfredo Rivera passed it into the net.

Atlanta would equalize in the 70th minute with a header from attacker Nick Firmino. Atlanta would then score a second goal in the 88th minute with a thunderous finish from winger Karim Tmimi.

Orlando would find a late goal in stoppage time, where substitute Favian Loyola dribbled past an Atlanta defender and directed a shot into the bottom right corner to send this game to penalty kicks.

Orlando would score all five of their penalties, and would win the shootout 5-3 and earn the extra point.
